When making custom skins steals the joy from playing the game

December 27, 2021

The same as I remember some bits from my Football Manager 2016 save in Denmark with AB Copenhagen, I still remember the moment when I told to myself it would be nice to create my own custom skin while playing the game. I was using mainly the ‘g2’ skin during the FM16 but despite it being perfect skin, there were things I didn’t like. Or better - I wanted to improve them to my liking.

And the learning process started. I decided to use the simple panels and widgets made for the DF11 website to have bigger player & staff faces and I added them to the base skin. I like this moment when you’re trying something new, especially in the combination with FM as it’s my favourite game of all. I remember the moment when I realised how to resize the kits’ widget in the club overview for the first time to make the kits bigger. It was like scoring the last-minute winning goal.

You would maybe be surprised how can three pixels’ adjustment makes a big difference (don’t tell it to your partner with centimetres). When I learned how to edit the league table and to be able to insert more data than only wins and points, it was so good feeling that I added all the data available just to have it here despite I know it looked stupid. And confusing as well with twenty-one columns...

It was simple skin with four or five screens edits. But it was my first try and I was happy. A year later, when the FM17 was released, the expectations were already higher. But it was the same as with my first try. Some small steps, some small edits here and there, some adjustments to DF11 panels to my own liking. And a lot of learning. Also thanks to some great people around the skinning hideout on the SI Forum or some feedback from other FM players around me.

The main idea of the skin was always the same – just make simple adjustments to make the game better. This remained the same despite I started making more and more my own panels, my own widgets and my own graphic papers. Because appetite comes with eating and the skin is much more complex and more detailed after all the years.

One of the nicest things of it all surely is when you realised how simple adjustments you made after three hours of saving the .xml file and reloading the skin again and again. The fact I spent many hours trying to move one line two centimetres higher but forgot to change the alignment or I deleted one symbol and was surprised why the whole panel doesn’t work. But it’s always fun to find something by yourself and not only copy/paste the work of others.

But the same as the game has changed in recent years, the way how people act has also changed. It doesn’t matter if it’s about making the FM skin or trying to deliver the best possible sports marketing content or some manual work. The more you create, the more you can lose.

As I mentioned in the post about the FM22 skin. I’m not a skinning expert and I’m doing mainly basic things because I like it in this way. There are more detailed and better skins around. Skins made by Wozzie, FMwkdsoul, Michael Murray, ‘bluestillidie00’ and others like Andromeda, for example. They all spend many hours making it perfect as they have great ideas and they know how to reproduce them in the game. I will always be grateful mainly for the fact that I found most of the things on my own. I didn’t steal it.

I know I said the same during FM21 but I’m sure the FM22 custom skin was the last one I shared publicly. As I said, the behaviour of the people is worse every year. And I had enough. When someone told me during FM20 that I’m a useless idiot because I refused to make his own background to the custom skin, I just moved on.

When someone downloaded my corner kick routines, forgot to rename them but also placed them on his own website behind the paywall with the same name as I saved it, I just moved on. Only my friend who sent them over to me was a little bit angry that he paid for something he downloaded a month ago for free from my website. I moved on after most of these things.

Until this year. The beginning of the FM22 cycle hit the peak of all. There were three custom skins released publicly two days after the beta version of the game was released. All these three skins were 90% of my work from FM20 and FM21. One of them was named “FM20 Rensie skin Dark” as the author was not even able to change the name of the skin in the config file. “It’s just for personal use.” This sentence is one of the biggest lies within the FM “community”.

I released the FM22 Rensie custom skins on Wednesday, November 19, 2021, in the morning. Two hours later, I saw that two different authors released the updated version of their skins. With several extracted files from my skin without any mention. I spent almost two-thirds of November creating this skin. In my eyes, it’s the best skin I created since 2016 when I started learning how to edit the size of the font. I already improved it again. But only for myself and a couple of friends. And that’s how it will remain.

The time before every new FM edition should be the best one. I always loved the nation/club selection process. I always loved creating everything around the new game. But not this year. The joy from making small edits developed into a big frustration that every time I will create something, there is a queue of idiots who will steal it. And when someone steals your work, he presents it as his own with stupid mistakes and someone other labels that as the best skin of all, the motivation goes down even more.

It’s the beginning of December 2021 when I was writing this and I didn’t start my main save during that time for the entire time of FM22. But the main issue was that I had no intention to even think about the save or plan something.

The creating the custom skin changed from “YES, it’s the fucking new game time” to some kind of onus. It’s the same when you think you have to create some content because it’s popular or someone expects it from you. Or any other reason.

No, you don’t have to. The same as I don’t have to. I would just like to find joy from playing the game again.

The combination of people who steal your work & the continuous number of bugs/issues in the default panels I have to fix before the developers decide to fix it by rewriting the original code = all my /our/ work can start again, it all just leads to more depression than joy from making it.

I’m happy there are or there were some people who sent me some donations during the last three years. Not because of myself or because I would be earning money for making a custom skin for the Football Manager. I’m happy because I was able to send the money to others who need them more than me. I did it in 2019, 2020 and I did the same in 2021 before Christmas. It was probably the last donation but better than nothing.

Cheers for reading, take care.

Today's weather in the 🇨🇿 capital. Not everyone is able to have his/her own home, hot water or access to a shower.

But there is a "Nocleženka" thing and it can help thanks to your #FM22 Rensie custom skin donations.

It's not enough to help everyone but better than nothing. pic.twitter.com/yciucgvHwJ

Rensie Custom skin for FM22

November 10, 2021

The Football Manager 2022 offers one default skin. That means it was easier to finish my custom skin because I didn’t have to make both dark and purple versions. The default purple colour is even lighter in FM22 and despite I have almost nothing against it, I was sure I will remove it. Or I will try to remove most of this colour.

I spent a lot of time in the settings file of this custom skin but also within many panels, widgets or graphic boxes and buttons to make it in the way I like it.

The result is available to download now. Both ‘normal’ and low-resolution versions have something in common. It’s a combination of dark and blue colours. The ‘blue 700’ shade replaced most of the bright purple colour in headlines, boxes, buttons, speeches or even in the intro box at the FM start screen when you load the game.

I was always a fan of this kind of blue colour and it was an easy choice for me to combine it together for the FM22 skin. It’s probably not a coincidence that all the clubs I played with between FM17 and FM21 have blue colour as primary or secondary. It’s a little thing but check the calendar screen for example where I added the blue colour as the main colour of the calendar cell. It’s like I went back to my childhood when I finally found what I wanted to edit. The popup calendar and the background of the today box is a great example.

I won’t share what everything is edited. I will be 100% clear to you - if I don’t count the main things like Player Overview or Club Overview, I don’t remember all the small tweaks and changes I made during last year. But I’m very glad I made or tweaked most of the things by myself and not only copied/paste them from different skin.

If I’m proud of something, it really is the Player Popup Profile including the player details in the upper part and the widgets selector in the bottom part where you can find the Form in the last 5, 10 or 20 matches of the specific player. Btw. these widgets are also in the normal player profile.

The FM21 skin included the selector within the player profile and I kept it for the FM22 as well because I like it and it works really well if you get used to it. There are many things and you can check the gallery or try the skin. You can always revert it back to the default or use someone else's work.

This skin version is the version I edited almost the whole calendar year through FM21 and the beta version of FM22 whenever I had some time. That means it’s also my own version and I would not share something that I would not use by myself.

Q&A

What resolution is this skin created for?

I’m using the most common 1920x1080 resolution with 100% zoom. The skin works with the Full Mode and Windowed as well. If you play in Windowed mode, the screen will be a little bit lower in height logically but I tested the skin in both Full and Windowed mode to ensure widgets and panels don’t move wrongly.

Does the skin include the Instant Result button?

Yes, it’s easier to add this button than to answer all questions about why it’s not in the game.

I don’t see the stadium pictures on the club overview screen. Is it a bug?

No, it’s not a bug. You have to download the custom mini stadiums pack to make it work. I’m using THIS ONE. And you can always add your own picture and edit the config file to have 1) a different picture or 2) a picture of your new stadium.

Why there are no logos and faces as in your pictures?

The same as above, you have to download the graphic add-ons on sites like sortioutsi.net, fmscout.com, fmslovakia.com etc. The skin doesn’t contain graphic add-ons, it would be too big a file.

Why do the panels in the home screen or player overview reset?

Untick the “Automatically override custom panels” in the Preferences.

No last starting XI widget in the club overview?!?

Great spot. The widget stopped working properly on this screen, it works somewhere else respectively as Wozzie told me. But I added the club culture and facts widgets to the club overview and tweaked this screen a little bit and I liked it more in this way. The club culture and facts widget gives me more useful information than the pitch with the last starting XI.

The downloaded file is in ‘.fmf’ format. What to do with it?

Just place it to the skin folder, it works absolutely the same as the packed folder before.

Why you didn't release the beta version with 2352423 updates for two weeks?

Because I'm not a crazy madman...

I like one panel in the skin by Wozzie and two panels in the skin by FMEnhanced. Will you add everything to your skin for me?

I’m very grateful for every feedback and I will always try to repair if something in the skin doesn’t work properly. But no, I won’t update the skin just because someone likes something different. I’m not a skinning expert and I’m doing mainly basic things because I like it in this way. Skins created by Wozzie, FMEnhanced, FMwkdsoul or Wannachupbrew are more detailed and more sophisticated and they always are because these creators are the best. There is always a lot of options. And if you would like to learn something about skinning, just go to the SI Forum/Skinning Hideout, there are always people who are willing to help in the lead with Michael Murray or ‘bluestillidie00’.

UPDATE November 18, 2021:

  • Fixed buttons in the scouting card

  • Reduced the half-time match screen to two slots instead of three

  • Added quick tactics buttons including Formation, mentality, shouts, make a substitution, team instructions and opposition instructions

  • Added player faces to the player’s bar during the match and increase the size of the bar to the full width of the screen.

  • Added the 'back' arrow back to the match team talk bottom line to be able to return from the team talk to the mid-match summary

  • Team names aligned to the centre of the match score widget(s)

  • Edited the view in the List tab in the Scouting Centre to use the full width and added columns like contract expiry or transfer status

UPDATE December 20, 2021:

Player scout report panel fixed

Added properties.xml to allow adding more columns within custom views

Added the good old timeline to the ‘live’ match coverage.

Rensie Custom Low Res Skin for FM22

November 10, 2021

The Football Manager 2022 offers one default skin. That means it was easier to finish my custom skin because I didn’t have to make both dark and purple versions. The default purple colour is even brighter in FM22 and despite I have almost nothing against it, I was sure I will remove it. Or I will try to remove most of this colour.

The main point of the low-resolution skin is that I took my favourite parts of the normal FM22 skin version and I optimised most of them to a smaller size. Panels and widgets were resized and adapted. I kept, for example, the player personal details in the upper part of the player overview to keep the nation/club logos bigger than normal.

I write about the widgets’ selector within the player popup profile in the post about the ‘normal’ skin. It’s not possible to include it in the low-resolution skin because of the, yes, the resolution. But the details in the upper part are the same.

I am also happy I was able to adapt the club overview screen to the low resolution by resizing the widgets so it looks very similar. Same as a player comparison for example and more. There are many things and you can check the gallery or try the skin. You can always revert it back to the default or use someone else's work.

The skin is created for the 1366×768 resolution and 100% zoom option.

Rensie Custom Skin for FM21 v2

February 17, 2021

The first version of the FM21 custom skin was released at the end of November last year. I edited the skin mainly for my own since the release in several ways and several places. I was just developing my own skin version, same as in the past.

And I decided to release version number two after I put together several tweaks and decided it’s an ideal time in combination with many questions about how I did this or this.

The new version contains many edits but some of them are the most visible of course. The main things like club or player overview remain mostly in the same way. But they were both refreshed and some of the things were cleaned and fixed. As always, many tweaks are not even visible for most of you because you don’t use them. Sorry, but it’s true.

One of my favourite edits is in the player overview/personal details when you can see the club logo and the national flag in a bigger size (thanks PrORiPpAax user from the SI Forum for the inspiration).

The sidebar & titlebar

Both sidebar and titlebar were changed from purple/black to the primary and secondary colours. That means colours will change depending on the player, staff, club, nation or competition you have opened.

Match screens & Match scoreboard

The new Match screens are made by michaeltmurrayuk. But I edited several things. It includes the font size and font colour withing several widgets (for example in the Overview and Match Overview). I also removed kits from the Overview and Player rating widgets.

I also decided to use the full-width version of in-between highlights without the notable events panel on the left side as it’s useless and the full-width version gives me a better experience from playing the game. (The original Match Screens Mod page)

Match screens are available for the in-between highlights (live match), half-time, full-time and post-match view (already played match). All of them are customisable and you are able to edit widgets and sizes of each slot.

There is also a new match scoreboard within the skin. It’s made with the idea to show the full team name and make the score area bigger. It also uses the team primary colour.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this topic on SI Forum. You can always check the Scoreboard Mods by Michael if you would want something different.

Players bottom bar

The idea behind this change is very simple and mainly due to practical reasons. If you would turn back to the default skin, you are not able to see the player profile within the bottom bar.

You have to go to the Tactics and visit player overview from there or player popup profile. But it’s not possible to check the popup profile from where you need it while watching the match to check possible sub, for example.

So, the solution was not too straighforward but thanks to the Wozzie‘s help, it works absolutley fantastic. Just hover the “i” icon same as in other screens and it will show the player popup profile.

Custom numbers & New font

You probably already noticed in the previous pictures from the game that it contains new custom numbers. I made them in large & default sizes. Both these sizes are used within the various parts of the game including the player overview, tactics screen, team report and more.

I also added the new font and the game uses it instead of the default one. It will probably take some time to get used to it if you will decide to use it but I like it.

You can always delete the fonts folder and put the fonts folder from the previous skin version but you will have to edit some fonts within the club overview panel where the new font is added by default.

The most common issues

Same as in any other area, there are always things what people always do, ask and moan about. One of them is when their widgets within selectors are constantly changing.

  • Try to use/have only one skin in the skins folder in the documents. The more skins you will have here, there is a bigger chance they will conflict between each other and some parts will reset or they won’t work properly.

  • Untick the option “Automatically override custom panels?” in Preferences/Interface.

  • You can edit player overview panel and player overview big selector panel and delete all widgets you don’t want to have here or set some of yours as default by the code.

  • Using other skins or just having the Dark and Purple in the same folder is the most common issue.

Mini stadiums in the Club Overview – please remember that you have to download the custom mini-stadium pack (the same graphic addon as faces, logos etc.) to make them work and appear in the club overview. They are not included in the skin, that would mean the skin would be very big.

I’m using THIS ONE. And you can always add your own picture and edit the config file to have 1) different picture or 2) picture of your new stadium.

Remember I’m making this skin with the 1920×1080 resolution.

That means that it won’t work exactly as in the pictures with lower but also with bigger resolution. There will always be something that will be aligned differently due to sizes of widgets and containers.

Be sure to exit the game, move the old skin(s) from the Sports Interactive/Football Manager/skins folder out before you will extract the new one. Clear cache – ideally not only in the game but also in your App data folder. How to do it? Follow this link!

Not everything is a mistake or issue of the custom skins. Sometimes it’s enough to revert to default skin to check if it works or not.

If you would like to remove the sidebar logo, just:

  1. Open the skin folder/panels/generic and sidebar menu table.xml

  2. Scroll down and delete the <!– Primary Logo –> widget (lines 136-148)

  3. Save the file, clear cache and reload skin. Or just restart the game.

Rensie Custom Low Res Skin for FM21

December 3, 2020

I still remember the days when I had my old small laptop with only 11′ display and a very small resolution. It was not easy to play the Football Manager on it. The more I’m enjoying now the fact I have a very good laptop with a classic 1920×1080 resolution. But I also have one small laptop, mainly for my travelling and working away from home when it’s needed. And allowed as well in the current COVID-19 time. It led to the situation I decided to make and share my work with all of you who have the low resolution = FM21 Rensie Purple & Dark skins Low Resolution.

The main point of this is that I took my favourite parts of the “classic” FM21 skin version and I optimised all of them to a smaller size.

It was made on the laptop with the 1366×768 resolution and 100% zoom option.

Same as the big version of the skin, the settings are from the Base skins made by michaeltmurrayuk.

That also means both skins have the background support thanks to Michael and you can use the player/club/competitions etc. background images. Just reduce/increase the opacity, as you can see how to do it here. The main edits contain player overview screen, club overview and player popup profile (the one when you hover over the “i” icon).

Main edited things

As you can see in the list below, most of the things from the original skin are the same. Some of them worked without big edits. Some of them were just resized or the widgets were slightly moved up or down.

  • Player Overview

  • Club Profile

  • Player Popup

  • Player comparison

  • Stadium profile

  • Club Overview

  • Non-player popup profile – edited the height of the staff profile picture to ensure it fits the details panel

  • Team/Squad Depth screen made horizontal instead of vertical

  • Schedule screen without the white background + fixture details on the right side is wider with the more info

  • Past meetings screen improved – the right side width increased, the info is the same as in the schedule screen

  • Player pictures in the tactics screen

  • Add player within the Mentoring screen height adjusted to fit properly

  • Instant result

  • Team of the Week pitch in the mailbox size increased – example

  • The kits widget size in the national team General/Overview screen increased – example

If I would be forced to use the laptop with a low resolution, what can happen whenever my high-end laptop will not work, I would be more than happy to use this custom skin. It offers the most of the things I like to use within FM skin.

We are all different and maybe you won’t like it. That’s a normal thing. I just wanted to share it with you as I would be happy to have another option along the default skin or other low resolution skins.

*If you want to see nations flags in the player overview instead of the nations associations logos, don’t use the association’s logos within your logo packs.

** I didn’t edit the match panels/match in-between highlights panels. As you know, the match UI was changed for the FM21 and it would surely deserve some edit to avoid too many useless rooms of space but I don’t have enough time for it. Be sure to check SI Forum for the possible match screen mods or other skins if someone other will make it.

Rensie Custom Skin for FM21

November 30, 2020

I started making the custom skin(s) for the Football Manager 2021 edition already during the autumn 2020 when I prepared a few things in the previous edition. Some of them didn’t work and I had to delete them. The other things works well, I only had to edit small things. But as the new Football Manager edition was released in the late November, it took some time to edit everything together with the new extracted default skins. The FM21 Rensie Purple & Dark skins are now out.

I decided to take make both Purple and Dark version again. The skin settings are from the Base skins made by michaeltmurrayuk who returned to the SI Forum.

That means both skins have the background support thanks to Michael and you can use the player/club/competitions etc. background images. Just reduce/increase the opacity, as you can see how to do it here.

Before many of you will ask, yes, the skin contains the Instant Result button. It’s here despite I’m not using it and I will take it out of my personal skin. But it’s easier to add it here rather than to face all the questions about it.

The main edits contain player overview/attributes screens, club overview, player popup profile (the one when you hover over the “i” icon) or non-player and your own manager overview.

Same as before, the skin contains many small edits and many small tweaks. But four from five people will never notice them.

And yes, the tactics screen contains player pictures. And no, there is 0% chance I will add the old suitability circles.

Main edited things

  • Player Overview

  • Player Attributes

  • Player Popup – it was slightly edited for the new version including the kit with the name and number. I know the long/longer names will not fit precisely. Mainly within players who are using the first and second name at the back. You can set the nickname to the player for example.

  • Player comparison – edited to have bigger player pictures as in the past.

  • Club Profile – vertical & horizontal dividers added to this screen, the club details panel on the left side was edited (improved) by sorting widgets + icons were added.

  • Stadium profile

  • Home screen with more widgets – same system as in the player profile as you can select your own widgets here.

  • Human (your manager) profile

  • Non-player profile + popup – edited the height of the staff profile picture to ensure it fits the details panel

  • Instant result

  • Team of the Week pitch in the mailbox size increased – example

  • The kits widget size in the national team General/Overview screen increased – example

Default Dark Skin with the shirt for FM20

March 2, 2020

The FM20 Default Dark skin with the bigger player portrait and the shirt for both Player Profile & Player Attributes screens.

I was asked about helping to create the default skin with just only one edit – player profile/attributes screen with the shirt & number.

I took the FM19 Player Profile panel(s) and edited it to make it work properly in FM20.

I also added the shirt with the number and name to the Player Attributes screen to make it work as it was intended so you now have the shirt in both profile screens.

The panels work also within the Player Comparison screen.

The rest is the FM20 Default Dark skin.

Same as with the default skin, you can select what widgets you want to use within the player profile like playing time pathway, form, training etc.

Just hit the arrow button and select what you want – same as I have it in the first and penultimate picture in the gallery below as I test it in my FM20 save.

See the screenshots selection of the player overview and player attributes screens.

Rensie Custom skin for FM20

November 19, 2019

The FM20 Rensie Skin in Dark & Purple version with the player profile and several other tweaks.

The main idea, the same as in the previous years, was to create simple skin based on default skin but with some small changes.

I was able to remove many useless and not needed small panels as default skin has no issue with the secondary colour and the title bar height this year. That means I was able to make the skin even more simple and cleaner.

Same as in the previous years, this is mainly my own skin and I'm happy with how it works right now. There will be no adjustments and edits just because of feature requests. Save your time and energy before you will want to edit something.

The default skins and panels etc. are available to download and everyone is able to learn and make his own custom skin. There are many guides and useful tips and hints around the internet, mainly on SI Forum.

If you don't like something, don't use this skin and don't ask why this, this or this is not included in the skin or if I will add it. This is the only one version I will release for FM20 (except some critical issues).

What was edited?

  • Manager Home Screen

  • Player Profile with the main aim to use face pack and make it cleaner thanks to removing one line of small widgets

  • Player Comparison Screen

  • Mentoring - Add player panel adjusted with a custom view to make it easier to set up the mentoring groups

  • Human (your manager) profile

  • Non-player profile

  • Club Overview

  • Match: In-Between highlights, full-time review & post-match review

  • Competition Review Screen - League Table adjusted with more info/columns

  • Stadium(s) Overview Screen - edited slightly to be able to see the stadium picture and basic info.

  • Schedule - edited the width of the right side + stadium picture and more info about the match added

  • Instant result

The v2.0 update - January 2020

I usually update the skin for myself during playing my own save and the FM20 version is not different. And I decided to release the update after many small changes and tweaks in recent weeks.

What next was I able to tweak? The Club Overview screen - the club details panel on the left and also the Last Starting XI widget on the right side.

Player profile screen also got some edit. The main one is able to see at first sight as I edited the pitch with positions on the right side. I made it bigger and I added the default pitch pattern.

The same you can see in the club profile or during the match. The same was also added to the Player Individual Training screen. And it also works even if you open an individual training screen through the team training.

There are a lot of other small changes including tweaks to fonts and colours within many screens. Mainly in player/staff profile, home screen, training, player/staff comparison and many more.

There are no groundbreaking changes but mainly little tweaks I made for myself.

The main tweak is I was able to organise the skin in overall and I was able to make it more compact in my eyes.

The download link is the same, just select FM20 Rensie skin Dark v2.0 or FM20 Rensie skin Purple v2.0 in the folder.

The final FM20 update - v.2.5 version

I decided to release the final update of my FM20 custom skin in April 2020 during April.

This v.2.5 version contains all the things I created or edited during the Football Manager 2020 edition cycle so far. I will probably edit some more small things in next months but no new version will be released.

The last update contains many small edits and tweaks in terms of colours, fonts and labels sizes.

Major changes you will notice on the first sight is the cleaned and edited look of your own manager screen where I added the container with "Known For" option. That means you are able to see the manager tendencies you gained during your saves. (thanks Rock's End FM for the idea)

Take a look on several managers from around the community. Some of them use higher or lower resolution than 1920x1080, that's why several screenshots is different.

I also included the revamped Player Attributes screen I made mainly for myself.

It contains some simple informations and also shirt with the number of the specific player.

The numbers were created with the font from the World Cup 1998 in France and the shirts the host nation used.

Btw. you can set what will be your landing page (Player Profile or Player Attributes) in the Preferences.

The download link is the same, just select FM20 Rensie skin Dark v2.5 or FM20 Rensie skin Purple v2.5 in the folder.

You are not allowed to use parts of this skin in your own skin IF you will share it later as your own work! And no, credit is not considered as an excuse.

Thanks for respecting this, it took a lot of work and time to put this together.

Alternative player profile version in Dark & Purple (February 2020)

The alternative version of Player Profile screen with the shirt & number. The Player Profile screen is very simple to see the most important things like personal details in the upper part, attributes and positions in the middle and stats + two small widgets with the selector below.

Rensie Custom Skin for FM19

October 30, 2018

After the Tempo and Ronnie Dog Skin in FM17 and FM18, it's not a skin with some specific name of some website like in the past.

But the main idea of the skin is still the same - just make simple adjustments to make the game better.

Some things are the same as in FM18, some other things were improved and edited, some things are better or they were removed completely.

  • The skin was made in the default purple and also in the dark version.

  • Instant result button included (before you will ask).

  • This skin was made mainly for my own use, I'm happy with this version and I will update it only if something will not work.

Player Overview

Same as in FM18 I decided to use panels. My first thought was to use the same as in FM18 but after some chat with FMSamo I decided to use the new panels but...

...the original files from were good but they needed some tweaks. I had to edit the code to make 'player personal details panel' (over the attributes) with bordered box. I also moved the bottom three widgets including seasonal stats up under the attributes same as I had it in the previous skin.

All the boxes were made 'bordered', there is a pitch picture in the Positions panel and I included the PRO/CON panel so you can use it next to attributes where is drop-down. Same as all the rest of the widgets are available to change thanks to the included selector. Just click to the arrow and select your own widgets.

In the end, I edited the player overview even more because I wasn't satisfied how it looked.

There are two ways how to show player overview. You can see there is a small arrow over the picture. That's because there is a mode for the player picture with the kit...

...and Cut-Out player picture with the signature and kit.

...I also decided to include the player profile with FM18 Panels. You can change the skin to "Rensie FM19 Skin Old" and it will be like this...

There is also edited Player Attributes screen and Comparison screen, same as last year.

More player profiles...

More player attributes screens...

Background Support Mod + Inbox adjustment

The Background Support Mod created by Michael Murray was activated and I also added the coloured 'ticks' in the mailbox list and increased the size of inbox header so the pictures of staff are bigger.

Scouting recommendation/card bigger picture

Another small thing was added as I increased the size of the player picture in the scouting recommendation card when you are in the Scouting Centre or in your mailbox.

Staff Overview + Human manager

Same non-player profiles as in FM18, I only adjusted some small things you would probably don't even notice...

Schedule

Just a quick change - the width of the right panel was resized to a more logical size...

Inbox item - Team of the week/month

Same as in previous skins I added this panel to increase the size of pitch picture in the inbox when you receive the message with the info about Team of the week/month.

Some leagues, for example in the Czech Republic, there are also substitutes for Team of the week. If you will leave this panel as I set it up there is a possibility the line with substitutes will not be able to see.

You can adjust it yourself. Just go to skin folder/panels/news_item_panels and open "inbox content with pitch panel". Then find the rounded line and change the value and save it. And reload skin...

Match Screen Mods

You can adjust the width of the containers in the game which allows you to more easily customise. You can edit it like you want, just drag the line and move it up/down/left/right.

You can find more info HERE.

Add Manager Picture

Do you want your own manager picture? You can thank to Michael Murray's mode but be aware of ...

  • You cannot assign a picture to an existing manager, if you want an existing manager to have a picture you would need to retire that manager and create a new one to take over but you won't be able to keep any of your in-game progress.

  • It isn't possible to change the image after the profile has been created to make sure you are happy with the image before you get too far into your game. Whilst you can now edit your manager in a game this feature doesn't allow you to change the profile picture nor will edit the face here override the set picture.

Caps Font removed & Added a logo to the background

If you want back the Caps Font just go to the „C:\Users\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2019\skins\Rensie FM19 Dark skin\fonts“, open file called „title“ and insert this <string id=”capitalisation” value=”upper case” /> between the paragraphs.

If you want to get rid of the background logo in the middle, go to the skin folder/panels/client_object – open the file “client_object_browser.xml” and delete this section and save file…

<!– Logo –>

<widget class=”picture” id=”mnpV” image_alignment=”centre” scale_picture=”false” transparency=”0.6″>

<record id=”object_property”>

<integer id=”get_property” value=”mnpc” />

</record>

</widget>

Same as with other changes just reload the skin.

Background picture

If you would like to use your own background picture instead of the default one just go to select your own picture and paste it to this folder “C:\Users\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2019\skins\Rensie FM19 Dark Skin\graphics\backgrounds” and name your own picture default.

Then just go back to game, clear cache in preferences and reload skin.

You can also use all available background packs.

Rensie Custom Skin for FM18

November 27, 2017

The main features of this Football Manager 2018 custom skin are edited Player Overview, Player Attributes and Player Comparison – all of these screens are compatible with Facepack and we were really happy to use their panels to make our FM18 saves better and more enjoyable.

The Staff Overview is also different from the default one for AI managers, coaches etc. but also for your human manager.

We also edited the Club Overview to be able to see some important details of your club at first sight.

We also increased the size of the Dynamics Hierarchy Overview and we also increased the size of the pitch in the news inbox when you receive the mail with a “Team of the week/month” etc.

Match In-Between Highlights + Match Review Screen Mods. You can adjust the width of the containers in the game which allows you to more easily customise.

Same as with Match In-Between Highlights huge thanks to Michael Murray for his work with this beautiful Football Manager 2018 mod. You can see a lot of important information thanks to it during the half-time, full-time and if you open the previous match on your fixture screen.

Probably one of the most useful things about this skin is the edited “Tutoring” page as we added the value of the Determination attribute and also Player traits so it’s very easy to see important things.

Caps Font removed & Added a logo to the background

If you want back the Caps Font just go to the „C:\Users\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2018\skins\Ronnie Dog Skin FM18\fonts“, an open file called „title“ and insert this <string id=”capitalisation” value=”upper case” /> between the paragraphs.

If you want to get rid of the background logo in the middle, go to the skin folder/panels/client_object – open the file “client_object_browser.xml” and delete this section and save file…

<!– Logo –>
<widget class=”picture” id=”mnpV” image_alignment=”centre” scale_picture=”false” transparency=”0.6″>
<record id=”object_property”>
<integer id=”get_property” value=”mnpc” />
</record>
</widget>

Same as with other changes just reload the skin.

Background picture

If you would like to use your own background picture instead of the default one just go to select your own picture and paste it to this folder “C:\Users\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2018\skins\Ronnie Dog Skin FM18\graphics\backgrounds” and name your picture default.

Then just go back to the game, clear cache in preferences and reload skin. You can see there is a picture with or without the Ronnie logo and there is also a darker default picture with the stadium. You can always add your own picture as we wrote earlier.

Credits

Special thanks go to Michael Murray who is the author of the Match In-Between Highlights + Halftime/Match Review Screen Mods.

Also thanks to „D_LO_“ for his help with the start screen and for permission to use his Last starting XI“ panel on the Club Overview screen.

And the last thank you is for and the panels that are used in the Player Overview, Player Attributes and Player Comparison screens. Credits go to Pikawa for creating panels for FM18.

And the many users who gave me feedback in recent weeks and months.

How to install:

  • If you’re in the game just quit eliminating crashes or issues with the game.

  • Download the .rar archive and unzip it.

  • Move the extracted folder “Ronnie Dog Skin FM18” to your skins folder:
    Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2018/skins

  • Run Football Manager 2018 and go to Preferences > Interface.

  • Choose “Ronnie Dog Skin FM18” and hit the confirm button.

Resolution:

This skin is mainly for 1920×1080 resolution but if you have a smaller resolution and you want to use this skin I recommend you to change it to “85% Zoom” in the Preferences. I used it like this many previous years when I had a laptop with a small resolution.

Rensie Custom Skin for FM17

November 20, 2016

When the full version of the new Football Manager game is released, many new custom skins are produced around the FM community through various forums and sites.

There are skins with a size of more than 100MB with plenty of custom graphics, background pictures, icons and many panels.

I used default skin almost the whole FM16 time, only for the last two or three months I use one custom skin as I wanted the new look of my long-term to save in Denmark.

When Football Manager 2017 was officially released, there are more and newer custom skins. One of them is CFM skin from a user called “pikawa”.

I liked player and club panels made by him so I decided I will use them for my own “default” skin.

There are some other changes in this skin from the original one. I resized the club panel and moved the kits panel from centre to right what means the kits panel is bigger.

Club panel overview includes key employees, club details or honours and last starting 11.

The player profile screen was improved with a player picture panel including a picture option so you can change it and you can have a player picture in a bigger size. The non-player screen for staff in the game remained almost the same but I changed the high of the upper panel so the staff picture is bigger than in default skin.

Another addition to the default skin is matches are divided into schedule screens by different colours.

I also use “Match In-Between Highlights Mod” from michaeltmurrayuk what means you have much more information in full pitch view during the match. And with this, I use also “Match Screen Kits Mod”. I only made kits bigger because.

The picture of the Team of the week pitch in the mailbox was also edited and made bigger so you are able to see kits, not only blurred small pictures of kits. Many thanks for this to @FMPressure.

Probably the last two modifications to the default skin are the Instant result button and edited league table. If you open the screen with the league table in the game you can see overall stats like wins, draws or points but there are also home match stats (green colour) and away match stats (yellow colours).

I use this skin on my laptop with 1600×900 resolution and 85% zoom out (you can change it in-game preferences/interface). If you will use this skin with a higher resolution you don’t need to zoom out, all the panels will display with no issues.
