Welcome back to Part 2 of Evolving with AZ. If you haven’t yet read my last post, Part 1, where I focused on recruitment you can do so here.
Inspired by Tony (FMGrasshopper) and his great tactical blog post with Monterrey (the magic is here), I wanted to go down a similar route when discussing my tactical philosophy and evolution. I thought a video was the best format for this and so have recorded 10 minutes of joy for you below.
Five Ride Forth
The above phrase is not only a line from my favourite book series (The Wheel of Time) but also an apt description of my tactic for season 2. I want to be a five-pronged attack - breaking through the lines, overloading unsupported defences and wreaking havoc in the penalty box.
It hasn’t been straight forward, I’m at the halfway point in season 2 and have made a number of tweaks, it’s not perfect, but it’s in a place now where I’m largely happy with it and results have been good.
I’ll leave the majority of the explaining to the video, but do continue to read the blog after you’ve blessed your ears with my voice once more.
One thing I didn’t touch upon much was defensive shape and solidity, I feel like the majority of goals we’ve conceded this season have not been a result of my tactic but more from set plays, rebounds, misplaced passes or incredible finishes. But I’ll continue to monitor this for a future post.
I’ve really enjoyed watching the positional play in the improved match engine. If you couldn’t tell already my favourite role for FM24 so far has to be the Shadow Striker.
I’m hopeful we can maintain our momentum through the second half of the season, here’s how things stand at the halfway mark.
Thank-you as ever for reading/watching and join me again soon.
